So we’ve discussed movie etiquette a ton of times on the show but, DAMN people are going crazy.  No not the movie Crazies though one has to imagine if that’s what going on in theaters nowadays.  So in a Cinemark 22 theater in Lancaster L.A. this guy is trying to watch Shutter Island and a woman is yapping on her cellphone.  It’s something that’s always pissed off movie goers that’s for sure.  So this woman is yapping on her cellphone and two of her male friends are with her.  So the guy expresses his opinions on cellphone use in a theater and the girl and the two other guys leave.  A few minutes later the same two dudes came back and stabbed the guy in the neck with a meat thermometer.  Now while you could say that would make a great scene in a horror movie it wasn’t a movie.  The guy is in the hospital for serious injuries and the two attackers are at large but, DAMN people.  Yet again theaters aren’t going to do anything about this kind of thing.  Though I wonder if the victim has any legal right to sue the theater.

This needs to come out much much much sooner.  Like NOW!

So the Oscars have now come and gone for 2010.  From what two of our cast members have said while having a meeting last night and I quote “I’d really rather be watching the Oscars about now because it’s actually good and funny.” kinda says a lot.  Though this post isn’t about what we thought about the Oscars show.  This post is about the winners of last nights show.

Ok so for those that saw Paranormal Activity and said BOO! ok no pun intended but, a lot of folks bitched and complained that it was horrible.  That nothing happened.  Where’s the ghosts etc, etc, etc.  While my opinion of the film still stands as the brilliant little independent horror film that could.  This trailer looks promising.  While this trailer has some documentary style elements to it I’m kinda interested.  There’s also this REC filming style to it “shrugs” I dunno the ending of the trailer kind of creeped me out.  So here’s your ghosts with your spooks and your blood go nuts.  What do the kids think?

Okay, so you’ve probably read the exchange Rob and I have been having about Netflix. I mean if you’ve listened to the show at all, you’ve probably heard this topic come up many time.

On those lines here is something that I just don’t understand…Streaming Movies (legally).
Everywhere you look technology is “changing for the better”. Every ad in the paper has deals for huge widescreen HDTVs with amazing resolution plus a ultra-super-cool Dolby Digital 15.1 surround sound system that will cause your ears to bleed if you turn it up past -2. etc. etc. etc. So how is it that people are settling for streaming movies to their computer? I dreamed my whole life about having a “big screen tv” and I finally have one. Why on earth would I want to sit in front of a 19 inch computer screen at a desk and watch a movie that may or may not stutter depending on the connection I have?

Listen, I know there are certain reason this is a plus…(my cable went out during Lost a couple weeks ago and guess what? I streamed it from their website and got all caught up! Yeah streaming video!) So you see, I’m not totally against this, I just don’t understand the fascination with it being the next big thing? I know Rob can fill me in on this a little, but I want to hear from those of you who agree with Rob and those who agree with me. Why would you want to watch a movie on your computer when you have a 55in HDTV with surround sound in your house?

OMG Blockbuster is dead!  Ok ok ok now that I have your attention.  Blockbuster which has had one foot in and one foot out of the video store grave has probably just put the final nail in the coffin.  Recently Blockbuster closed another 500 locations but, now it’s just gotten funny and sad.  They’ve brought back the late fees.  SAY WHAT?  You read right Blockbuster did away with the late fees back in 2005 but, now it seems it’s back.  Blockbusters reasoning for this?  Well apparently Blockbuster is saying that people are keeping new releases for 4.7 days which keeps that movie from somebody else.  What will this cost you?  Blockbuster will charge a late fee of $1 per day up to 10 days.  Funny Netflix doesn’t charge me late fees.  Oooohhhhh…too soon?  It’s probably safe to say that this move will surely bang the last nail in the coffin for Blockbuster.  We’ve had many many conversations and arguments on this kind of thing but, DAMN Blockbuster what are you doing over there?  It’s probably safe to say my previous predictions in past podcast episodes of streaming movie technology becoming the dominate force is coming true.

RIP Blockbuster!

While recording our latest episode of the show last night I made mention to the cast of a new film based on a book created by James O’ Barr.  The film is called Frame 137 and looks pretty interesting but, considering this is a teaser the premise is kinda vague.  So what do you guys think?

Frame 137 Teaser from Judd L. Tilyard on Vimeo.

In this episode we talk about the trailers Waking Sleeping Beauty, A.D., and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.  The third Riddick movie is getting back to some monsters.  Norrington gives an update to the Crow Reboot and Lost Patrol.  Sean William Scott is talking about American Pie.  Frank Miller is going for a Ronin movie.  There’s some interesting Superman news and Cartoon Network signed a production deal with Weird Al WWWHHEEEE!

what-would-you-have-nominated-for-an-oscar

Hello all, Chris here from Movies For Nobodies. I just gave this a quick post over on Facebook but I know you M4N homepage people would rather have this discussion on our own site. So I was thinking the other day about which movies that I liked this past year that weren’t nominated for a major Academy Award. I thought I send the question out to all of you and see what everyone thought?

I think Sherlock Holmes should be a contender for Best Picture. The acting, directing and story were all top notch. Not to mention that it’s good to see Guy Ritchie doing a great turn behind the camera again. I just had a really good time with this, even though the story is a little too close to the Young Sherlock Holmes film from the 1980’s. But Mark Strong as Lord Blackwood does another solid turn as the baddie. But again, why do they have to muck these British films up with the lazy American characters. Especially in this film. Compare Rachel McAdams to the characters who are British (or even playing a Brit for that matter). They are way more animated then the Yanks played in the film. But don’t take just my lonely word for it. Check the film out for yourself.

So give it a thought and let us know what you think? We’ll talk about it on th show and if we get some of your great responses we’d love to have you on the podcast to tell us your pick and why.
